“In our opinion, the visit of the Minister of National Defence of Turkey to Ukraine is an event that reflects the strategic nature of our relations, large-scale defence cooperation and mutual commitment to peace and security in the Black Sea-Azov region. Today was a very important and busy day,” said the Minister of Defence of Ukraine.

Andrii Taran stressed his gratitude to Turkey for its unwavering and consistent support of all measures aimed at restoring Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity: "We are grateful for this support, which is comprehensive in the political, economic, defence and diplomatic spheres."

He said that during the talks the parties focused on important issues of mutual interest.

“First of all, it is an assessment of the security situation in the Black Sea-Azov region, consideration of trends and prospects for its development and consideration of ways to respond to emerging threats,” said the Minister of Defence of Ukraine.

The current stage and prospects of implementation of defence reform tasks were also discussed.

“In this context, I would like to emphasize that in the near future we plan to begin the practical implementation of the Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on military-financial cooperation. This agreement has a genuine financial dimension and will facilitate the planned transformations,” said Andrii Taran.

The priorities of bilateral defence cooperation, in which military-technical cooperation and interaction of defence industry enterprises play a key role, were also discussed.

“This is of great importance for the development of our economies, especially in the period of overcoming the recession caused by the coronavirus pandemic,” said Andrii Taran.

The issues of Euro-Atlantic integration were also considered, in the context of the importance of making maximum use of the new instruments of defence and military cooperation that Ukraine received after gaining the status of a NATO partner with enhanced capabilities.

“Everything we have discussed and, in particular, the agreements we have reached, will certainly help in strengthening the defence capabilities of our countries, increase the operational and combat capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and in general will ensure peace in the Azov-Black Sea region,” stressed the Minister of Defence of Ukraine Andrii Taran.
